Another magazine feature! Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the Winter 2011 issue of Bullett magazine, in which Chloë Sevigny is interviewed about herself, her childhood and youth and her latest collection for Opening Ceremony. A preview of one of the covers for the issue is to your right.
The interview as well as some medium-res images from the accompanying photo spread highlighting the Chloë Sevigny for Opening Ceremony Resort 2012 collection are already up on the Bullett website; check them out at www.bullettmagazine.com. Chloë is not featured in the photoshoot itself, but the interview more than makes up for it. Some highlights, courtesy of Bullett:
What were you good at when you were younger?
I was really exceptional at entertaining myself for hours on end. My mother never had to give me a drawing book or crayons. She could just, like, leave me alone for hours and hours and I would entertain myself by playing imaginary games with my dolls, or just sitting in the backyard for five hours at a time. Nobody had to say anything to me. I didn’t need to be around anybody.
Were you terrible at anything?
Other than mathematics? I sometimes think that’s why I’m an actor, because I can’t add and I can’t spell. [Laughs.] As a kid, I was never that great at sports. I played softball, but I really wasn’t into group activities, especially in high school. I never did anything extracurricular. I guess I was more of a loner.
What was the toughest part about being a kid?
I was really unhappy with the town I lived in. I felt really dissatisfied, like I wasn’t being exposed to the outer world, and I was really mean to my parents because of that. I think I lacked confidence, which made growing up really hard. I didn’t like the way I looked, and that was so hard.
What about in high school?
I had a Volkswagen bus that I bought with my own money in Vermont, and I was really into it. It was perfect for weekend getaways. I was driving down the New Jersey Turnpike to a Grateful Dead show one weekend, and I blew a piston rod and the Volkswagen bus was killed forever. I called home — real high, I’m sure — and my dad had to come down and pick us up. It was awful. I think I might’ve even been on acid. It was that kind of trip.
What about Jersey Shore?
I think it’s really depressing that people are propping these people up as celebrities. The way they behave is embarrassing, and I think it’s kind of diminishing our culture. Most reality TV people behave like pigs, and it’s unfortunate that they get put on pedestals for doing so.
If you saw Snooki wearing something from your collection, would you approach her?
I read somewhere that Abercrombie & Fitch offered to pay The Situation not to wear their clothes — but who am I to say who should be wearing mine? I do remember someone saying that… what’s Paris Hilton’s sister called? Isn’t it Nicky or something? Anyway, she apparently talked to someone about my first collection, and was like, ‘I don’t get it.’ I was like, Good! I’m glad she doesn’t get it. It’s not for her. Besides, what’s there to get with clothes? So if Snooki wants to wear my clothes, go for it. I think she’d look a lot better in them.
Many thanks to Kim for the heads-up!

A terrific and informative article and interview with Chloë Sevigny from BlackBookMag.com, in which Chloë discusses among other things working on Mr. Nice and portraying Judy Marks, Big Love, Drew Droege’s “Chloe Sevigny” drag impression and growing up. Full article under the cut.
Chloë Sevigny on Going from Drug Smuggler to Pre-Op Trans Assassin
No one could ever accuse actor Chloë Sevigny of playing it safe. From her first major role as an HIV-positive teenager in Larry Clark’s KIDS to her Golden Globe Award–winning portrayal of a sister-wife on HBO’s Big Love, the 36-year-old actor and fashion designer has never been one to shy away from controversy. In her latest film, Mr. Nice, Sevigny plays Judy Marks, wife of Howard Marks, a Welsh drug smuggler who was alleged to have once run 10% of the world’s hashish trade. Up next, she’s planning a return to television with two very different miniseries: a Lizzie Borden biopic, in which she’ll play the homicidal lead, and a still-untitled project about a pre-op transsexual assassin, for which she’s readying her Irish brogue.
First, however, a chat — about everything from Patti Smith and bong hits to why her brother Paul won’t be DJing her first Opening Ceremony fashion show next week — from inside Manhattan’s Playwright Tavern, an appropriately unexpected place to meet an Oscar nominee.
Had you known about Howard Marks before signing on to play his wife?
No, but I asked my English friends, who said he was a huge counter-culture icon in the UK. He wrote a book, also called Mr Nice, that every kid over there reads. The alternative kids hero-worship him.
Have you read Judy’s blog?
No, I’m not really into the internet.
She says lovely things about you on it.
We didn’t meet until after I finished shooting the film, but we ended up bonding in Spain. I think Bernard [Rose, the film’s director] didn’t want me to become friendly with her because he didn’t want it to color my performance. He didn’t want me to become more sympathetic to her and to her children, even though I’d read all about it from the book.
She wrote that the two of you have a lot in common, one of those things being that you’ve both had your “fair share of messing about on yachts.” What did she mean by that?
She grew up in a sailing family and so did I. My dad was a big sailor and my brother Paul actually tried to sail in the Olympics. He went to the College of Charleston because of their sailing team. He used to deliver people’s yachts from Newport down to the Caribbean for money, and I’ve done that with him a few times. So that’s probably what she meant, but maybe it’s also a class thing because the English are so obsessed with that. Maybe she means we’re cut from a similar cloth.

Terrific article and interview with Chloë Sevigny from The Darien Times, in which Chloë talks about among other things accepting her first ever Golden Globe at the 2010 ceremony, growing up in Darien and her relationship with her family. Full article under the cut.
Chloë Sevigny: Darien native on Golden Globes, Big Love, Weed Beach renovations and teenage rebellions
If actress and former Darienite Chloë Sevigny turned on the television this past Sunday night, she probably felt a variety of emotions.
Not only was it the kick-off of her fifth and final season of her HBO series Big Love, but it was also the night of the Golden Globe Awards — where last year, Sevigny won for best supporting actress in a drama for her role on the show.
Sevigny, also an Academy Award nominee, talked to The Darien Times earlier this month about her hometown, her hopes for a movie that will be her “star vehicle,” the end of Big Love and why, both personally and professionally, she thinks the best is yet to come.
Sitting in a cafe in Manhattan’s East Village, the neighborhood she calls home when not filming, Sevigny recalled last year’s Golden Globe ceremony.
“I couldn’t sleep for a week before,” she said.
Not only was she nervous about the outcome, she said, but almost more nervous to win. Why?
“I have stage fright — even if I have a prepared speech. Especially in that room?” she said.
