Great news! European fans aching to watch Sky Atlantic’s Hit & Miss but don’t have Sky are in luck today, as Amazon has updated their listings with the Region 2 DVD and Blu-Ray for the series. According to the Amazon website, both will be released on July 2 and are already available for pre-order, so if you have an extra £15 to spare, why not spend it on some quality TV? :)

‘Hit & Miss’ premiere doubles Sky Atlantic’s usual audience

The good news on Hit & Miss keep coming in. Broadcast Now reports last Tuesday’s Hit & Miss debut on Sky Atlantic drew in 161,000 viewers — double(!) the usual audience for the channel.

161k (0.95%)

The six-part series, starring Chloe Sevigny, marks Sky Atlantic’s first foray into original drama having previously only aired blue-chip US series such as Game of Thrones and Mad Men.

While its debut audience may seem small, Hit and Miss doubled Sky Atlantic’s slot average of 80k (0.45%), according to overnight Barb figures supplied by Attentional.

Hope everyone in the UK (with Sky) was able to tune into the very first episode of Sky Atlantic’s six-part miniseries Hit & Miss on Tuesday. If you weren’t, Sky customers can catch up online on Sky Go.

Because we have a lot of visitors from the US and we want to support the show and its run on Sky Atlantic, we won’t be recapping episodes on the site like we normally do. We have however updated the gallery today with screen captures of Chloë Sevigny in Tuesday’s premiere episode, which we hope you’ll check out. :)

As for the episode itself, the show absolute cashed all the promises from the beginning. Graphic (but not gratuitous), gripping and beautifully shot, and the child actors were a real revelation. Last, but certainly not least, Chloë was absolutely incredible on the show. There are so many demanding elements to this story and Mia, but none of that is evident in Chloë’s performance, and she looks incredibly gorgeous on the show to boot. This could very well be my favorite Chloë project to date. We realize not everyone has Sky but if you can check it out, you should check it out.

The next episode of Hit & Miss is on next Tuesday, May 29 at 10 PM on Sky Atlantic. Don’t miss it!

With Hit & Miss‘ Tuesday TV debut, several newspapers and -blogs have put up their reviews of the show. Fortunately, the reception for the show has been very positive overall, and Chloë Sevigny has been particularly (and deservedly) commended for her portrayal of Mia.

Below is excerpted what critics have had to say of Chloë’s performance so far:

From the second the show opens, Hit and Miss sets itself apart from other television programmes by completely embracing the stark reality of its subject matter. Mia, played pitch perfectly by Chloe Sevigny, is far from the elaborate charisma of Beatrix Kiddo from Kill Bill as one might expect and neither does she embody the panache of a graceful warrior assassin like in House of Flying Daggers. [...] The character is given real depth and complexity making her so engrossing you can hardly wait for her to come on screen again. Sevigny’s elegant yet brassy portrayal which really is the heart and soul of this production.

Good news, America! According to Variety, DirecTV will start airing Sky Atlantic’s Hit & Miss starring Chloë Sevigny in the United States on July 11. More from Variety:

DirecTV’s newest original drama for its Audience Network, Chloe Sevigny starrer “Hit and Miss,” will premiere July 11.

The drama, about a transgender woman who is a contract killer, will launch immediately after the premiere of the fifth and final season of “Damages.” It has a six-episode order for its inaugural season.

Paul Abbott (“Shameless”) created “Hit and Miss,” the first original series commissioned by the U.K.’s Sky Atlantic. FremantleMedia Enterprises is distributing thanks to its first-look deal with co-producing shingle AbbottVision.

Peter Wright, Jorden Bennie, Roma Christensen, Karla Crome, Reece Noi, Jonas Armstrong, Vincent Regan, Erin Shanagher, Jordan Hill, Ethan Griffin, Steve Money and Ben Crompton co-star.

In the second episode there’s an astonishing scene where a naked Sevigny slaps her prosthesis repeatedly. I think it should be obvious by now it’s not Call the Midwife. “I hated that scene. I tried to get them to cut that. I thought they wanted to drag it out for too long. I thought it was gratuitous and unnecessary. I felt sometimes they were pushing it. They wanted to show the penis as much as they could. To be provocative just to be provocative. I didn’t think it was necessary to the story and I ended up getting into a lot of discourse with the producers over it.” Producers usually win in such fights, though. “Yeah they do.”

“I think I was quoted as saying it’s grim up north. But I don’t think I’m the first person to ever say that. I mean the UK is really beautiful. The landscapes up there were gorgeous. But it was just hard for me because I was working on this very intense subject matter, the biggest part I’ve ever played. I was the lead for the first time. I was single so I didn’t have a boyfriend to call and complain or talk about things. I wasn’t having sex. I wasn’t eating any carbohydrates. I was practically starving myself to remain skinny and my frame of mind was just topsy turvy, so I think it wasn’t so much the town. There are definitely worse towns I’ve shot in. Like Shreveport, Indiana [where Chloë filmed 'The Killing Room' in 2008 -- our note].”

“Earlier on in my career I was definitely more driven by the director. I was not as interested in the part and just wanted to work with people that I really respected. Whether it was one line in an entire movie, like Lars von Trier’s Manderlay, I just wanted to be with him again. But now I think I’m more concerned with character. As I’m getting older, to play the smaller roles doesn’t feel as fulfilling. So I’m trying to hold out for the more juicy roles.”
