HBO: “‘Big Love’ to conclude after Season 5″

Sadly, but not wholly unexpectedly, it looks like this winter is the last we’ll be seeing of Nicki Grant & co., as HBO has just announced that the upcoming fifth season of its acclaimed polygamist drama series Big Love, premiering January 16 2011, will be the series’ last. The full story from Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly:

HBO is getting a divorce from Big Love. The cable net announced that the polygamy drama’s fifth season — premiering Sunday, Jan. 16 — will be its last.

“It has been an honor and pleasure to work with series creators Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer on this unique and provocative series, and I’m happy that they will be able to bring the story to its close the way they always envisioned,” said HBO prez Michael Lombardo in a statement. ”We look forward with great anticipation to collaborating with Mark and Will on their next venture.”

In a joint statement, Olsen and Scheffer said the decision to end the show was a creative one. “While we were in the writers’ room this year shaping our fifth season, we discovered that we were approaching the culmination of that story.”

While never a ratings juggernaut, Big Love enjoyed strong acclaim and earned multiple Emmy nominations during its first three seasons. But the show’s fourth season was widely panned by critics and at least one of the show’s stars. Here’s hoping Love bounces back and delivers a satisfying final season.

Personally, although it won’t be easy to let go of the weekly dose of Chloë Sevigny as Nicki, the conclusion of the series comes at a rather fitting time story-wise, as I would personally expect there to be dramatic, life-altering consequences of the Henricksons’ public outing at the end of last season. This also means that anything can happen in these last episodes, which should make for pretty exciting television. What do you think?

The Slits music video starring Chloë released after Ari Up’s death

After a prolonged battle with cancer, The Slits frontwoman Ari Up died this week at the age of 48. The band released their latest album Trapped Animal already last year, however in accordance with Ari’s wishes, the music video for one of the album’s singles, “Lazy Slam”, starring Chloë Sevigny was not released until this week the day after Ari’s death. Thanks to BlackBookMag.com, we finally have some additional details on the Bean Pole × Band of Outsiders Collaboration Chloë Sevigny recently modeled. According to the site, Chloë is the face of a capsule collection from Band of Outsides for the South Korean label. More from the source:

Speaking of designer collaborations, Scott Sternberg of Band of Outsiders has embarked on a sartorial partnership that, unless you’re in South Korea, won’t be within reach anytime soon. Bean Pole, a major brand in South Korea (and an affiliate of Samsung), has enlisted the LA-based master of prep to design both a women’s and men’s collection in time for fall. While many of the looks call to mind Sternberg’s signatures at Band of Outsiders and Boy – think polo shirts and well-tailored trousers paired with whimsical accessories – they’ll likely retail at a significantly lower price point: Bean Pole is a mainstream brand in the contemporary market. Chloe Sevigny has signed on as the face of the capsule collection, which debuted in Seoul on September 30.

While you can’t score pieces from the collaboration without logging some serious airtime, thanks to a behind-the-scenes video, you can take note of some of Sternberg’s styling tendencies, like layered looks, mis-matched plaids perfect for fall, and big floppy hats. Bold accents by way of bright green tights or a daffodil-yellow fur shrug are also key. For guys, suspenders are back, as are loose trousers worn low at the waist. And while women’s pants are being shortened at the hemline, men’s pant lengths are falling long enough to cause formidable bunching. Until the collection finds its way to eBay, your best bet is to look for similar styles a bit closer to home.

HBO will be releasing the fourth season of Big Love on Region 1 / North American DVD January 4, 2011! Chloë Sevigny, as most of you will know, stars on the show in her Golden Globe-winning role of Nicolette “Nicki” Grant opposite Bill Paxton, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Ginnifer Goodwin. Details from IGN:

It’s time to show your vast amount of love for HBO’s Big Love, of which the fourth season will be arriving on DVD come January 4, 2011, right on pace with past seasons arriving on the format from HBO Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video. Unfortunately, no Blu-ray plans have been announced for the Mormon drama yet, as it seems HBO is still a bit iffy with releasing certain programs in high-definition.

The fourth season continues to tell the story of Bill (Bill Paxton) and his three wives (Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chloe Sevigny and Ginnifer Goodwin) and now-nine children as a new maelstrom of personal issues swirl around Bill as he launches yet another business venture aimed at diversifying his assets: a Mormon-friendly casino he planned in the third season with Native-American partners, all while sniffing out the grand illusion of becoming a State Senator.

The special features will be solely the “Inside the Episode” feature, which is certainly more than it sounds like. The feature will encompass every episode in the box set, providing an inside perspective with creators and Executive Producers Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer. The box set will run for the same suggested retail price as the season before it, clocking in at $59.99.

Chloë in ‘All Flowers in Time’ short film

News may have been slow this summer and fall, but it doesn’t look like Chloë’s been idling. According to the official website for Jonathan Caouette’s All Flowers in Time, Chloë Sevigny stars in the 13-minute short film. The bit premiered recently at the 48th New York Film Festival on September 30, attached to the South Korean film Oki’s Movie.

[Jonathan Caouette's] latest short film, All Flowers in Time (2010) starring Chloë Sevigny, presents a mysterious and fantastical world where a Dutch television signal possesses young viewers, making them believe they can transform into other people or monsters. It will premier at the New York Film Festival in 2010, then go on to the London Film Festival and many others around the world. All Flowers in Time has begun its festival journey by winning the Grand Prix Canal+ for best short film at L’Étrange Festival in Paris.

Check out these behind-the-scenes photos from a Chloë Sevigny photoshoot for the South Korean fashion label Bean Pole, via BeanPoleBlog.com. Since this is a South Korean brand and website, details on the photoshoot are a bit sketchy, but from what we gather this could be the makings of an ad campaign for the brand. Hopefully, more details will surface online soon (and preferably in English!).
