“Who knew Ana was such a delicate blossom? She looks pretty sturdy to me.”
- Nicolette “Nicki” Grant
As you may have noticed, we’re a little behind in Big Love recaps (three recaps behind, in fact). However, we will be covering all episodes we’ve missed in due course, and today we’re starting with episode 3.05 “For Better or For Worse” from Sunday, February 15 2009. As always, please highlight to read:
As Barb and Margie bicker over where newly wedded fourth wife Ana should live, Bill makes the decision for them all by assigning Ana to Nicki, much to the dismay of all, not the least Nicki and Ana. Upon realizing the extent of her loss of independence in the Henrickson household, Ana rebels and demands her own house and separate finances. Sarah is still undecided about the future of her unborn baby, and Sarah, Ben and friends make a risky journey to Juniper Creek, which is on high alert due to Alby’s new curfews and “God Squads”. The Grants each threaten one another with revealing their respective secrets, save Nicki, who really has no leverage on the rest. Nicki gives notice at work, but recants her decision when her former boss expresses interest in her via voicemail. Ana overhears Barb, Nicki and Margie argue over her and the tensions within the family, and demands a divorce.
Chloë never ceases to impress me with how seemingly easily she is able to adapt from role to role, and was once again excellent as Nicki. I’m also really enjoying where the writers are going with Nicki this season; I feel the earlier seasons never really explored all the potential in the character. Check out our 607 medium-res screen captures of her appearance at our gallery, and our 9 site-exclusive video clips at our media archive. Next up is episode 3.06 “Come, Ye Sains”!
