“I despise myself. I’m so angry. I’m so sorry for who I’ve become.”
– Nicolette “Nicki” Grant
Hopefully, everyone was able to tune in to last Sunday’s exciting Season 3 finale of HBO’s critically acclaimed polygamist drama series, Big Love, on which Chloë Sevigny stars as Bill Henrickson’s second wife Nicolette “Nicki” Grant opposite Bill Paxton, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Ginnifer Goodwin. Here’s our recap of episode 3.10 “Sacrament”, please highlight to read:
Following the announcement of Nicki and Bill’s separation, Margene as a child of divorce is not happy to see Nicki move out. As Nicki packs her belongings and moves to the Big House with Alby, Nicki asks if this marks the end of their marriage, a “one way ticket out”, to which Bill responds saying he can’t promise her anything. At the Big House, Alby and Nicki half-jokingly discuss the demise of their parents, with Nicki being unaware of Alby’s intention to actually follow through with his veiled threats on their lives. Alby and Laura then assemble a letter bomb, which Alby delivers to Adaleen’s doorstep, but is himself injured when the bomb goes off earlier than planned. When news of his accident reaches the Big House, the fear of Roman’s return has everyone clearing out with speed. Meanwhile, Nicki’s first husband JJ imposes Nicki’s daughter Cara Lynn on Nicki, and the two eventually bond. When Nicki hears of JJ’s plans to include Cara Lynn in the Joy Book, Nicki, given the opportunity, confesses to a compassionate Barb, and the two flee the compound to the Henricksons with Cara Lynn. Back at the house, Scott accepts Sarah’s proposal of marriage and Bill gives the two their blessing, much to Barb’s surprise and dismay, and Barb, obviously struck by a personal, emotional crisis, tells Bill she wants more children with him, even if she has to go to a rented womb in India to get them. Meanwhile, Margie sells her car in order to be able to afford the new clothing as required by her new home shopping network endeavor, and when Bill loudly expresses his doubts about her prospects of success, Margie is outraged, wishing Bill had more faith in her.
Elsewhere, Bill and a most suspicious District Attorney Ray Henry arrange through Roman a meeting with the Greenes, in which the document legalizing polygamy within the LDS church is to be traded for the life of the adoptive daughter of Bill’s brother-in-law, Ted, their plan being to get both Roman and the Greenes for their respective crimes. However, things do not turn out as planned when Roman takes a detour to the planned location of the meet, and Hollis Greene rejects the document, indeed soon revealed a fake, as false when Roman refuses to bow down to him as proof of its legitimacy, and the Greenes make an exit with the kidnapped Kim Lee. Despite the hick-up, a new meet-up is arranged through Selma Greene, eager to be rid of the girl. Outraged by the recent turn of events, Ray does his best to tie Bill’s hands in the matter, threatening him with legal action should he deviate from their new plan. Bill, however, refuses to comply, and informs Roman of a tracking device on their car, but Roman’s suspicions towards his motives gain new strength when Adaleen calls to warn him of Bill’s true intentions. Holding Bill at gunpoint, Roman orders Selma to let go of the girl and make a run for it, and an angered Bill accuses him of being a false prophet. Selma, however, is caught despite Roman’s effort thanks to Bill’s friend Don Embry, and Ray announces to Bill he’s filing a murder charge against Roman for the death of Kathy Marquart. While Bill returns home to his family, where he meets Cara Lynn for the first time, Roman returns to an empty Big House where his overtaken by Bill’s grief-struck brother, Joey. As Bill announces the formation of his new church to his three wives, Joey suffocates Roman with a pillow, possibly fatally.

“But we really need to talk about me now!”
- Nicolette “Nicki” Grant
As always, hopefully everyone was able to tune in to last Sunday’s episode of HBO’s critically acclaimed polygamist drama series, Big Love, on which Chloë Sevigny stars as Bill Henrickson’s second wife Nicolette “Nicki” Grant opposite Bill Paxton, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Ginnifer Goodwin. Here’s our recap of episode 3.09 “Outer Darkness”, please highlight to read:
Unwelcome in the Henrickson household, Nicki stays in the Big House on the compound with her brother Alby, where the two plot against their parents. Bill worries losing Nicki will result in him losing the rest of his family, and feels he has let down his wives. While at Alby’s, Nicki crosses paths with her first husband, JJ, and is less than pleased to see him. When he offers her the possibility to see their daughter, she quietly turns her back on him. Back home, Sarah’s ex-boyfriend Scott, having heard of Sarah’s miscarriage, suddenly shows up at the Henricksons’ doorstep, where Ben punches him in the face while Bill tells him off. Scott and Sarah, however, reconcile intimately, only to be interrupted by an abhorred, if sympathetic, Nicki. When Barb’s polygamist lifestyle is outed to her congregation by her own sister Cindy, Barb realizes she could face excommunication and experiences as crisis of faith. Budging under pressure from Margie, Bill asks Nicki to come back home, only to announce during a one-on-one dinner he wants to be unsealed from Nicki, much to Nicki’s surprise and anger. As the two return home, they find Barb in an uproar, as Cindy inadvertently confessed to Barb what she’d done during a sacred Mormon ceremony. However, Barb’s animosity towards her sister is quickly transformed into empathy, when Cindy and Ted’s daughter is abducted by the infamous Greenes, exceedingly keen on obtaining the much-discussed letter legitimizing polygamy within the church. To aid his brother-in-law, Bill aims to use Roman’s influence on the Greenes to get the child back in exchange for Bill negotiating with District Attorney Ray Henry a recommendation of lift of probation for Roman. Ray reluctantly agrees, but at the same time tells Bill there’s an ongoing investigation regarding his and Nicki’s involvement in Roman’s trial. Alby deliberately reveals to Bill’s brother Joey, still devastated by the death of his bride-to-be Kathy Marquart, details about Roman’s involvement in Kathy death. When Joey finds out about Bill’s deal with Roman, he denounces his brother. Following a hearing, Barb, fearful of ending up in the “outer darkness” in death, is to her great grief excommunicated as a result of her unwillingness to let go of her lifestyle.
Wowee! I don’t know about you, but I’m personally really digging where they’re going with Nicki this season, and Chloë never ceases to amaze me with her portrayal of Nicki’s quirky mannerisms. I wonder what part, if any, Nicki’s first husband will play in the upcoming season finale. By the way, has anyone else noticed the brilliance of the series score? Beautiful. Check out our 474 medium-res screen captures of Chloë performance at our gallery, or alternatively our 9 site-exclusive video clips at our media archive. Can’t wait for next Sunday’s season finale, 3.10 “Sacrament”! As always, we’ll do our best to cover it.

Things have been quiet with Chloë, of late, haven’t they? Apart from Big Love, of course. Well, now we might finally have a reason for the recent lack of new media. While filming for Mr. Nice may have wrapped up(?) in the UK, according to SignonSanDiego.com, filming for Werner Herzog’s horror drama My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done (2010) is ongoing in San Diego, CA. From SignonSanDiego.com:
In secrecy, German director Werner Herzog (Nosferatu) is filming My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done around San Diego with Oscar nominee Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road), Willem Dafoe and the Big Love duo of Chloe Sevigny and Grace Zabriskie. The project is based on the case of former University of San Diego student and Old Globe actor Mark Yavorsky, who in the late ’70s killed his mother with an antique sword in Pacific Beach, apparently acting out a role from a Greek tragedy.
According to one report, the film is “low-budget and being shot in a digital video guerrilla-style.” Locations include a small downtown theater and sites in Coronado. Yavorsky was found innocent by reason of insanity and committed to Patton State Hospital.

In the absence of any Chloë Sevigny-specific news, I do have an interesting Big Love-related update for you. Several news sources are reporting a depiction of a sacred Mormon ceremony in a future episode of the HBO polygamist drama series, has many Mormons in an uproar. From CBC.ca:
The producers of the polygamy TV drama Big Love have apologized ahead of time for any offence to Mormons caused by an episode that depicts a sacred religious rite.
The HBO cable series stars Bill Paxton as the owner of a chain of hardware stores who is married to three wives, played by Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chloë Sevigny and Ginnifer Goodwin. The fictional family is non-Mormon but the series will show an endowment ceremony in a Mormon temple on its March 15 show. The Mormon Church, officially known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), only allows selected individuals and members in good standing to witness such a ceremony.
News of the episode has angered many Mormons, who have called for a boycott of the network and calls to cancel subscriptions to AOL, part of the Time Warner Inc. conglomerate that owns HBO. The network released a statement late Tuesday to address the outrage. “It was not our intention to do anything disrespectful to the church, but to those who may be offended we offer our sincere apology.” Creators Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer told TV Guide the episode will take place in an endowment room and the celestial room of a Mormon temple. They said they thoroughly researched the ritual and used an “ex-Mormon consultant.” The two say the ceremony — in which participants move to a higher level of understanding of their religion — has never been depicted on screen.
The Mormon Church has previously voiced fears about the series, which launched in 2006. In a release, it says it feels a betrayed by HBO. “Despite earlier assurances from HBO, it once again blurs the distinctions between the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the show’s fictional non-Mormon characters and their practices. Such things say much more about the insensitivities of writers, producers and TV executives than they say about Latter-day Saints.”

Hopefully, everyone was able to tune in to last Sunday’s episode of HBO’s polygamist drama series, Big Love, in which Chloë Sevigny stars as Bill Henrickson’s second wife Nicolette “Nicki” Grant opposite Bill Paxton, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Ginnifer Goodwin. Here’s our recap of episode 3.08 “Rough Edges”, please highlight to read:
In the eve of Kathy Marquart’s funeral, the Henrickson household begins to fall apart when Nicki’s lies and secrets begin to unfold to the rest, while Lois is proving an unexpected pillar of stability to Wanda in her and Joey’s shared grief. As Nicki’s former boss District Attorney Ray Henry suddenly shows up at Margene’s doorstep, thinking it is where Nicki lives, the truth about Nicki’s identity and her dealings with the DA are revealed to everyone, and soon Nicki finds that everyone has turned their backs on her: a devastated Bill and Barb, Margie, an embarrassed Ray Henry, Joey, furious over Nicki indirectly having a hand in Kathy’s death, Roman, unforgiving of Nicki shoving him down the courthouse stars — even Barb’s daughter, Sarah. When the Henricksons seem indifferent to her fate, Nicki seeks refuge with the only person still talking to her, her renegade brother Alby. Convinced of Roman’s direct involvement in Kathy’s death, Joey Henrickson is outraged when an insolent Roman shows up at the memorial service, and rushes over to Adaleen Grant to push her to admit the truth, which she resists, however. Bill continues to force Ted’s hand about the document legitimizing polygamy in the LDS church, and eventually has it stolen, only to find it stolen from him when the Greens suddenly appear at Bill’s office to stake their claim on it. The confrontation is only seconds away from ending brutally for Bill, when Don Embry turns on the fire alarm, scaring off the Greens. As it turns out, it’s Don who’s taken the document, legitimizing his lifestyle, in a desperate effort to save his family from falling apart.
Well, I was beginning to wonder when everything would begin to unravel! What a good point Alby makes in saying how Roman is finally beginning to show his true color. Personally, Chloë pulls off probably the season’s best performance as Nicki so far — the different reactions of Nicki are truly well portrayed!
