Hopefully everyone was able to tune in last Sunday to HBO’s critically acclaimed polygamist drama series, Big Love, on which Chloë Sevigny stars as Bill Henrickson’s second wife Nicolette “Nicki” Grant opposite Bill Paxton, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Ginnifer Goodwin. Here’s our recap of episode 3.03 “Prom Queen”, please highlight to read:
Nicki’s mother continues to push Nicki to find out the identity of the witnesses for the prosecution in Roman Grant’s looming trial, when she to her amazement discovers Bill’s brother Joey Henrickson’s new second wife, Kathy Marquart, is one of them. Nicki then tries to pressure Joey’s first wife Wanda into getting Kathy off the stand, but Wanda, feeling powerless and unloved with the introduction of the new wife, instead tries to commit suicide by drowning in Margie’s pool. Nicki accuses Kathy of fabricating her accusations against Nicki’s father, to which Kathy responds with a shocking and honest reveal about herself as well as Nicki; how both were married off too young to men they did not wish to marry. Rhonda, jealous of Sarah’s newfound friendship with Frankie, reunites with Roman, while Sarah and Heather go to their prom with Frankie and Ben, despite initial hesitation, after which Sarah reveals to her brother she is pregnant. Bill’s mother Lois holds his father Frank prisoner, and threatens to kill him, a threat she comes close to realizing, while Frank’s disappearance is slowly getting noticed at Juniper Creek. Margene receives word of her mother’s death, but seems surprisingly unaffected by the news. Bill threatens to break it off for good with potential fourth wife Ana when he and Barb catch her being unfaithful to him.
Gotta love this show! Once again, Chloë delivers a fantastic performance as Nicki, as we have come to expect of her, and personally, I thought this episode featured some exceptionally wonderful, unusual Nicki moments, despite her having some less onscreen time than usual.
