“Maybe something awful happened to his parts back then. I mean, maybe Margie broke him.”
- Nicolette “Nicki” Grant
I hope everyone was able to tune in to last Sunday’s episode of HBO’s polygamist drama series, Big Love, in which Chloë Sevigny stars as Bill Henrickson’s second wife Nicolette “Nicki” Grant opposite Bill Paxton, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Ginnifer Goodwin. Here’s our recap of episode 3.02 “Empire”, please highlight to read:
Nicki’s apparent fertility problems is the talk of the day in the Henrickson household, and Barb and Margie force Nicki to see a gynecologist about it; the wives and Bill are unaware of the fact that Nicki is actually on the pill for fear of losing her marriage to children, the way she feels her mother did. Margie’s straightforwardness comes close to blowing the Weber Gaming deal with the Indians, but the deal is still on, at least for the time being. Barb is relieved to hear that the findings of her previous visit to the doctor’s are, in fact, not cancer. Sarah breaks up with her boyfriend. Bill’s parents confront one another violently, while Nicki’s father Roman Grant delivers a serious threat to Bill which he swears to realize if he does not help Roman find the remaining witnesses, who could otherwise become his undoing. The Henrickson family go out on several uncomfortable dates with the potential fourth wife, Ana.
What a fantastic episode! As always, Chloë was phenomenal as Nicki; I love the way she smiles sometimes. The gallery has been updated with 630 medium-res screen captures of Chloë’s performance; video clips will be added with the relaunch of the site (and media archive).
Don’t forget to tune in again this upcoming Sunday, February 1 2009, for Big Love episode 3.03 “Prom Queen”, at 9 PM on HBO. As always, we’ll do our best to cover it!
