The most valuable asset any country can attain is control of the human mind.

The people at FirstShowing.net have put up the first poster for Jonathan Liebesman’s upcoming psychological thriller The Killing Room (2009), starring Chloë Sevigny, Nick Cannon, Peter Stormare and Chloë’s Zodiac co-star Clea DuVall. The site also reveals some additional moderately spoilerific details on the film, which are definitely worth a read if you’re interested in the movie. Spoiler-phobes should, in fact, turn away now. [Synopsis:] As a group, they are presented with a series of questions and a finite window of time by which each of them must submit a unique numerical answer. Presumably the subject who is furthest from the correct response will be “removed” from the experiment. They soon come to realize that, in this lethal psychological game, the correct answer is not always the right one. Behind the scenes, the mysterious and brooding Dr. Phillips (Stormare) deviously pulls the strings as the most recent addition to his team, military psychologist Ms. Reilly (Sevigny), is emotionally torn by her first assignment.

The Killing Room is directed by Jonathan Liebesman, of Darkness Falls and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning previously. The screenplay was co-written by first-time writer Gus Krieger and Ann Peacock (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, Nights in Rodanthe). The film will be premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January where it will be looking for a US distributor. Expect to hear plenty more about The Killing Room in 2009!

ElleUK.com reports Chloë Sevigny is one of many celebrity members of the Elle (UK) “50 Rules of Style” panel, which also includes actress Christina Ricci and singer Roisin Murphy. The list is featured in the January 2009 issue of the magazine. From ElleUK.com:

‘I used to try building outfits around one key piece, such as a great pair of shoes. I’d end up trying on a million things to go with them and still nothing would look right. That’s swell, Elle, but Chloë Sevigny Online is still not happy about the apparent cancellation of Chloë’s style advisor column. We’re disappointed, you hear?

Do you think actors are weird?
I generally don’t fraternize with many actors. I only have one actor friend, Natasha Lyonne, and she’s out of the ordinary. But I think most actors are crazy, neurotic, insane people, so I try to avoid hanging out with them. Most actors are pretty self-obsessed.

Do you ever make deliberately contrary style choices because it’s fun or interesting or challenging?
No. I’m a huge fashion fan. I’m very aware of what’s happening in the fashion world, and I’m a fan of so many designers. I have worn designers that I think might need help, but never anything contrary. I’ve made some brave choices, people say, but maybe it’s just something that I like that’s fashion-forward and people don’t understand it. But it’s not on purpose. It’s never really something I’ve thought out.

I think acid is underrated, especially in 2008 when it seems to be fairly irrelevant.
I actually have older friends who take mushrooms. One friend in particular says it’s like dental floss for the brain. He loves them and takes them all the time and he’s in his forties.

At last, things are making progress with Chloë film-wise! ShockTillYouDrop.com has the first four medium-res promotional stills from Jonathan Liebesman’s upcoming thriller The Killing Room, at least two — and possibly three — of which feature Chloë! Following the success of Platinum Dunes’ Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, director Jonathan Liebesman flirted with a number of projects including the upcoming Friday the 13th before Marcus Nispel was brought in.

Liebesman ultimately decided to helm The Killing Room by screenwriters Gus Krieger (a newcomer) and Ann Peacock (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe). The film was shot in Shreveport, Louisiana with actors Nick Cannon, Clea DuVall, Timothy Hutton, Meade Patton and Chloë Sevigny. And, as reported yesterday, Liebesman’s latest – about four folks roped into an extreme psychological research study sanctioned by the government – is a Sundance entry (out of competition).

More news on the upcoming thriller The Killing Room! The Sundance Institute has announced its screening lineup at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, which will run January 15-25 2009 — and The Killing Room is among the announced movie screenings! From the ever reliable Variety:

Tightened to 16 entries from last year’s 24, the Premieres rep some of the higher-profile films at Sundance, often coming with known directors and casts and occasionally with distribution already in place. Premieres section is based at the fest’s largest venue, the Eccles.

The Killing Room, directed by Jonathan Liebesman and written by Gus Krieger and Ann Peacock, about four people who get in deeper than they imagined when they sign up for a psychological research study. Stars Chloë Sevigny, Peter Stormare, Clea DuVall, Timothy Hutton and Nick Cannon.

Let’s hope we’ll have some reviews and photos from the festival in January! Can’t wait!

The Big Love HBO official site has been updated with some new Season 3 material, giving us a sneak peek at the exciting upcoming season. In addition to the first Season 3 trailer, the updated website now also features a hoard of other Season 3-related video clips, two of which should be of interest to Chloë fans in particular; on the website main page, you’ll find links to the following clips — “Nicki’s Dilemma”, in which Nicki recounts her story so far, and “Go Behind the Scenes”, with short interview segments with Chloë regarding the new season as well as some behind the scenes-footage. At last(!) some promotional footage of the upcoming third season of HBO’s critically acclaimed polygamist drama series, Big Love, in which Chloë portrays Nicolette “Nicki” Grant. WireLover has posted the first Season 3 trailer on YouTube, and I have to say the upcoming season looks incredibly exciting! Check it out on YouTube.
